8/13/07- BLUE PERSUASION was this great zine published in the early 90's by aaron lee. aaron used to live in kentucky as did my pal bill. bill put me in touch with aaron who then began sending me copies of his zine, BLUE PERSUASION. he managed 5 issues, the first four were half size and the final one was full size (8.5 by 11). they all had color covers (insides were b/w tho' ) and on the back cover of the first issue is says: IN THIS ISSUE: jerry butler, penis your majesty, lisa suckdog, drugs, wesley snipes, records, masturbating, n.w.a., greasy food, the archies. ...you get the picture, ruminations on junk culture and thus, right up my alley! i was just paging through them the other day and almost forgot how great they were.
a few years after doing the zine aaron moved to l.a. and began working for l.f.p. (larry flynt publications). a friend and i drove down to l.a. once and visited him at the lfp offices. it cool...it was then that i realized that lfp published all kinda magazines , not just porn. there were mags on cars, gardening ,home, etc (if i recall correctly). aaron showed us larry's office door then said "man, that guy scares the shit out of me!" not sure what aaron is doing now....i think he was doing some stand up comedy in l.a. recently. been a long time, since i've seen and/or talked to him. i'd like to chat w/ that guy again. .......

8/13/07- the other day i was at the portland zine symposium and my pal andrew (www.theslowpoisoner.com) had a reeses cup for me...but not just any old reeses cup. this was the brand new elvis (the king !) edition that had a layer of banana on the bottom . yes folks, it tasted as good as it sounds! i woke up today and went to fred meyer (large grocery story here in portland ) and bam! they had them on sale 3 for a $1! i purchased 3...one to eat NOW, one for my wife and one to save until the end of time (or until i die, whichever comes first). apparently peanut butter and bananas were one of elvis's favorite snacks (i thought fluffernutter and banana was his snack of choice??? oh well, ...maybe he had a few favorite snacks ) . anywho......thank you reeses (and andrew) for brightening up my day!

Flesh and Bones zine

One of the great lost zines from the 1980's. some guy named jeffo did this out of his new jersey home and not sure how many issues he managed but i only have 3 of them. this was my favorite one i had.....imagine a flipside meets tiger beat. everything about this rag was rad from the handwritten reviews (in cool handwriting) to the pinups (a great one of killdozer's michael gerald in this issue one of barry "greg brady" williams in the next one). all this plus nipsey russell, the mod squad, jeffo rates the different buggle gums, lost in space, bonaduce, dinosaur (before the jr was tacked onto their name). blah blah blah. if you ever see these for sale on ebay buy buy buy!
